The Rangs Bhaban destruction
Friday, 28 August 2009
I was watching a news item in one of the television channels and it had something to do with WASA. I was not paying much attention until there was this bigwig of WASA and he was saying that just because there is an illegal structure it does not mean one has to tear it down.
He was speaking about the RANGS Bhaban. What his logic was it was not clear. Perhaps he meant that once such a huge structure had been built, it should not have been destroyed.
He, in fact, said that something could have been done without obliterating the building. Like building a road around it or something?
It was clear he was among those who did not approve that the building had come down. So, why was not he consulted? Did he speak out when all this was happening or was he afraid his position (whatever it was at that time) would be compromised?
The tearing down of the RANGS building was an act that did not come up with much opposition except from the people who owned it.
So how was it built illegally? I mean, the persons responsible for that act should have been sent to jail. Nothing like that happened.
To those who are still carping about it, I have just this piece of advice: now that the act has been done, please leave it in peace. The road being built is far more important than any private building built illegally that was preventing that road connection.
