The same old Mohsin

Thursday, 11 December 2014

Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, who let the law go up in smoke by lighting up a cigarette at a function to give away prizes to students in July and hurled abusive words at journalists in August, has again hogged the headlines for wrong reasons. The minister, who often creates controversies or triggers furor among the people with his ‘unexpected’ comments, on Wednesday said that nurses should not wear religious attires while serving. ‘Nurses must wear uniforms if they want to serve patients. They shouldn’t be dressed in religious attires,’ Mohsin Ali said while addressing the inaugural function of a 2-day health fair held in the premises of the newly-constructed 250-bedded hospital in Moulvibazar town. Observing that ‘a nurse must be like a nurse’, Mohsin Ali said one should not enter this profession if he or she thinks about shame and religion. He also assured that Moulvibazar Nursing Training Institute will be upgraded to a nursing college. The minister advised the nurses to learn foreign languages, saying they cannot take job abroad for their weakness in English and Arabic languages. Deputy commissioner M Quamrul Islam, police super Mohammad Tofail Ahmed and acting civil surgeon Dr Hemanta Kumar Das, among others, spoke at the function held with deputy director of the hospital Dr Haripad Roy in the chair, according to a news agency.
