The US, Afghanistan and ME conflict
Sunday, 27 December 2009
INSTEAD of withdrawing, the US sent 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan.
Can the US and NATO say whether their troops would solve or escalate the problems in Iraq and Afghanistan?
The US possibly wasted opportunities to solve the Afghan, Iraq and Israel-Palestine problems. Because of mishandling, the problems got inter-linked.
For its double standard, the US continues to fail in getting the 'two-state' solution to the nagging six-decades-old Israel-Palestine conflict, the root of the other problems.
Israel-Palestine conflict bred several Arab-Israeli wars. The destruction of Iraq by the US is a fall-out. The other fall-outs include nine years of Iran-Iraq war, Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1990, the 1991 Gulf War, the nightmare of 9/11, and the US invasion of Afghanistan in 2001. But for the Israel-Palestine conflict, the US would not have invaded Iraq in 2003. But for the Israel-Palestine conflict the world would have no terrorism, no Al-Qaida and no Taliban.
The question whether the US can win the war in Afghanistan would be pertinent. By resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Washington can more easily achieve peace and stability in the region.
