Thursday, 15 May 2014
The state minister for home has retracted his statement on the arrest of Narayanganj multiple murders accused Hasmat Ali Hasu saying he is ‘uncertain’ about it. Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday morning told bdnews24.com that Hasu, cashier to the fugitive prime suspect Nur Hossain, was arrested in Jessore district on Tuesday night. However, later at night, he said, ‘There’s still confusion. We are not sure whether Hasu has been arrested. The inspector general of police does not know the matter yet.’ Seven men were abducted from Narayaganj on April 27. Their bodies, including that of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC)’s panel mayor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Advocate Chandan Kumar Sarker, were found in Shitalakkha and Dhaleswhary rivers in Narayanganj several days later. NCC Ward No 4 councillor Nur Hossain is the main accused while Hasu is the third suspect in a case filed over the 7-murder. Referring to his earlier statement, the junior minister said ‘What I wanted to say is that I saw his (Hasu) arrest on TV and asked you (the journalists) to watch the report’.
