There's no need of banner to help the distressed: Moeen

MANIKGANJ, Aug 4 (UNB): Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed has urged all, irrespective of party affiliation, to come forward in aid of the flood victims as he said helping the sufferers is the only national task of the hour.
"Bangladesh is now under water. Now we have only one task - to help the flood-affected people," he said Saturday while speaking at an exchange-of-views meeting at Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office in the district town.
The Chief of Army Staff pointed out there is "no need of any banner for helping distressed people, no matter whether there is emergency or not. There is no relation between relief distribution and politics".
In view of a ban on politics under the current state of emergency in the country, political parties did not yet come out for relief operation for the flood-stricken people.
Socio-cultural organisations, many of which are also associated with different political quarters, also inactive.
General Moeen, whose force is engaged in helping the civil administration under an 11-adviser caretaker government for over six months now, in view of the exigencies, made a clarion call for all to work together in facing this natural disaster.
He had a word for those only offering sermons but sitting idle at this hour of humanitarian crisis, "Come out to the affected areas refraining from giving suggestions from Hotel Sonargaon. See how people have been in abject suffering," he said.
