Thief killed in lynch-mob attack in Comilla

A suspected thief was killed in a lynch-mob attack while trying to steal money from the donation box of a mosque at Manikmura village in Nangalkot upazila of Comilla district early Friday. The deceased could not be identified immediately. Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Nangalkot Police Station, said a thief entered Manikmura Mosque and tried to break the lock of the donation box in a bid to loot the money from the box around 3:30 am. Sensing the presence of the thief, the Moazzem of the mosque made an announcement of it through loudspeaker. As the thief attempted to escape, local people caught him and gave him a severe thrashing, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police rushed in and sent the body to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy, according to a news agency.
