Sending workers to Malaysia

Those who create crisis will face punitive action

Warns state minister

Punitive action will be taken against those who are involved in creating crisis in sending workers to Malaysia, warned State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Shofiqur Rahman Choudhury on Saturday.
He said, "Whoever creates such crisis; there will be an investigation committee. All the things will come out through the inquiry committee."
"Punitive action will be taken against the people who are found involved in this malpractice," he voiced the warning while talking to journalists after visiting Alia Madrasa in Sylhet city. Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury also said that the Malaysian government had given a quota to send more than 500,000 workers to the country (Malaysia). Bangladesh worked to fulfill that quota.
In view of this, they asked Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA) for information regarding the Malaysia-bound workers.
BAIRA could not give that list. As a result, it created difficulties for scheduling the flights.
"We have arranged around 22 special flights," he said.
He added they also sent a letter to the Malaysian government to extend the time. It has not been answered yet.
"The Bangladesh high commission and the ministry are working to solve these problems," he said.
However, the Southeast-Asian country closed its door for foreign workers including Bangladeshis on Friday.
About 30,000 Bangladeshi workers who have paid and are in the process of migrating to the country have failed to enter Malaysia as the market closed, sector insiders said.
