Thousands marooned in Lalmonirhat chars

Sunday, 14 June 2015

LALMONIRHAT, June 13 (BSS): Several thousands of people in char areas in the district of Lalmonirhat were marooned as the Dharla river swelled due to pre-monsoon rains.
Officials and local sources said water-level at the Dharala river has risen sharply in the past three days as heavy rainfall in the country along with onrush of water from upstream makes its banks overflowed leaving thousands of people in char areas in the district stranded.
The local administration is taking adequate measures to mitigate sufferings of the flood affected people, the district administration office sources said.
