Thursday, 10 November 2011

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) submitted charge sheet against three persons, including a land grabber, for their involvement in attacking a press conference at Khulna Press Club (KPC), official sources said in Dhaka Wednesday. A senior official of the KMP told BSS that Sub-Inspector (SI) Rashed of Sadar thana has recently submitted the charge sheet accusing an alleged land grabber Monir Hossain, his accomplices Saidul Hawlader and Rafique. SI Rashed, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, said that the accused persons along with their colleagues attacked a press conference at KPC on October 25. The leaders of Tetultola Landless Cooperatives under Batiaghata Upazila arranged the conference against a land grabbing initiative. The accused persons along with their cadres riding on four-five motorcycles entered the club and started assaulting. Club staff Ruhul Amin, Chan Mia and Abul Hossain received injuries as the attackers beat them up. On hearing their hue and cry, a team of patrol police rushed to the spot and caught Saidul and Rafiq, but the main accused, Monir, managed to escape. Md Shaheb Ali, general secretary of KPC, later filed a case with Sadar thana under Section 4 and 5 of Speedy Trial Act on that day.
