Three-day int'l expo on power begins Nov 12 in city

An international exposition, "Power Bangladesh 2009" will kick off November 12 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.
Conference and Exhibition Management Services Ltd (CEMS) will organise the three-day-long exhibition with the assistance of power department of power, energy and mineral resources ministry.
Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, adviser to the prime minister on energy, will be the chief guest while Brig Gen Mohammad Enamul Huq, state minister for power, energy and mineral resources special guest at the opening ceremony.
"This expo will play an important role by opening new doors to power generation and transmission, alternative power, PV power, energy and renewable sector of Bangladesh," said Mehroon N Islam, president and group managing director of CEMS while addressing a press conference at the National Press Club.
She said, "It will build a bridge between local entrepreneurs and foreign investors, which will help achieve the government's goal of making digital Bangladesh within 2021."
Shahid S Sarwar, group director of global operation of CEMS said, "We will showcase latest innovations and technology in power and energy sector, which can help and inspire the local entrepreneurs to expand this sector here."
He said, "This expo will provide exhibitors an opportunity to further establish business contacts and direct communications with the visiting trade delegations, industrialists, importers, distributors and agencies."
Bangladesh government has taken up a $6.0 billion plan, which includes $4.4 billion in generation, $600 million in transmission and $1.0 billion in distribution sectors.
The government has decided to set up 1,500mw rental power plant, 800mw peaking power plant and 2000mw coal power plant in the country.
