Three-day science fair kicks off

A three-day Science Fair and Science Olympiad kicked off Monday on the premises of National Museum of Science and Technology (NMST) in the city Monday.
On the occasion of 44th National Science and Technology Week, the event is being held to inspire the country's youths in science and technology based modern education.
This year the theme of it is "Solar Energy Potential and its Well-being".
A total of 700 contestants across the country are taking take part in the fair this time marking the science and technology week.
Minister of Science and Technology Affairs Yafes Osman is expected to be present as the chief guest at the award-giving and closing ceremony of the fair on Wednesday.
The Science Olympiad and quiz competition are being organised for the seventh time to prepare the youths for facing challenges of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).
Earlier, the National Science and Technology Museum in cooperation with the Upazilas and district administrations organised science competitions in 493 upazilas and 64 districts across the country.
Winners from Upazila, District and Divisional level are participating in the 44th NMST fair.
National Museum of Science and Technology (NMST) director general Muhammad Munir Chowdhury disclosed this at a press conference at the NMST auditorium on Sunday.
The NMST has chalked out different programmes on the occasion. More than 1,000 guests, including teachers, students and politicians are set to attend the event.
Participants will exhibit different innovative projects. At least 155 stalls are being set up in the NMST Complex for the fair.
The most attractive event in the fair is presentation of various innovative projects or models by the young scientists.
These include fire prevention, smart agriculture, solar power, wind power, environmental pollution control, climate change, robotics, green urbanisation, medical systems and numerous other models.
At the press conference Munir expressed the hope that the science fair would bring revolution in the arena of science and technology.
This is a great opportunity to stimulate the youth section of the society in the pursuit of knowledge and thereby flourish their innovative capacity, he said.
He also said the NMST is trying to incorporate the remote- areas students who are mostly lagging behind in the pursuit of science and technology knowledge.
The science fair will end tomorrow (Wednesday).
