Three dead as pickup van collides with truck in Naogaon

NAOGAON, Jan 10 (UNB): Three people died in a head-on collision between a dump truck and a pickup van on the Naogaon-Rajshahi highway in Manda upazila of Naogaon.
The incident happened on Tuesday night.
The deceased were identified as Akram Hossain, 45, son of late Syed Ali of Goalpara village in Hapania union of Naogaon Sadar upazila, Rajon Islam, 35, son of late Sirajul Islam of the same village and Rabiul Islam, 40, son of late Abul Kadir of Baludanga bus stand area of Naogaon Sadar upazila.
Manda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mozammel Haque Kazi confirmed the news.
Quoting locals, OC Mozammel said the pickup carrying workers was heading towards Rajshahi at night, when it collided with a speeding dump truck coming from the opposite direction.
One person died on the spot. Several others were taken to a local hospital, where two others died.
The bodies of the deceased were kept at Manda Upazila Health Complex, added the OC.
"If anyone files a case over the incident, the bodies will be sent for autopsy and if no one objects, the bodies will be handed over to the families for burial," the OC said.
