Three die in road accidents in three dists

At least three people, including a cop, died in road accidents in Munshiganj, Dhaka and Noakhali districts in the last 24 hours ending on Friday night. Police constable Hasan Tareq, 22, was killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Baluakandi in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj on Friday evening. Police said, he was a constable at Sutrapur Mill Barrack in Dhaka city and came to visit his village home. He met the accident while returning to Dhaka by a motorcycle. He was run over by a Chittagong bound bus leaving him dead on the spot.

In Dhaka, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver was killed as a private car hit the vehicle on Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in Jatrabari area on Friday afternoon. The victim was identified as Mohammad Fazle Fakir (45), a resident of Dohar upazila of Dhaka district. Pedestrian Masud Alam, a witness, said, a private car hit the auto-rickshaw leaving its driver Fazle Fakir injured. He was rescued and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). DMCH police camp assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sentu Chandra Das said Fazle Fakir succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.

In Noakhali, a Comilla-bound bus and a Chowmuhani-bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on leaving a pedestrian killed and the auto-rickshaw driver injured. The accident took place in on Chowmuhani-Sonaimuri road in Islamgonj bazaar under Sonaimuri upazila on Friday afternoon. Pedestrian Rashed, 12, son of M Jahangir of village Islamgonj of Sonaimuri upazila, died on the spot and auto-rickshaw driver Sohel was admitted to Noakhali Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College Hospital. Local people of Islamgonj Bazar became agitated after the accident and blocked the Chowmuhani-Sonaimuri road after the accident at 6pm. However, the road blockade was withdrawn as police intervened, according to a news agency.
