Three drown in Khulna, B’baria ponds

KHULNA, Apr 19 (UNB): An SSC examinee drowned in a pond at Boyra Police Lines area in the city on Thursday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sajid Arefin Siddiqi, 15, son of Selim Reza Siddiqi, and he appeared in this year's SSC examination from the Khulna Public School and College.
Quoting witnesses, police said Sajid went to the pond along with his father to learn how to swim. At one stage Sajid drowned in the pond while trying to swim.
Hearing screams of his father, locals rushed in and rescued Sajid from the pond.
Later, Sajid was taken to the Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, in Brahmanbaria, two minor girls drowned in a pond at Boro Bakail village in Sadar upazila on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Madhu Begum, 7, daughter of Mafiz Mia and Eti Akter, 8, daughter of Golap Mia of the village.
Quoting family sources, police said Madhu and Eti slipped into a pond near their house while playing there in the afternoon and went missing.
Getting no whereabouts of the girls, locals found the bodies floating on the pond later in the day.
