Three factories, 42 rooms gutted in city fire

Three small factories and 42 rooms housing low income people were gutted in a fire at Chawkbazar thana area in the city early Saturday, reports UNB.
Police quoting local people said the fire originated from a factory housed on the 2nd floor of a three-stored building at Ershad Colony of east Islampur in old part of the city at about 4:25 am.
Soon the fire engulfed the whole building, which also housed one toy factory and one plastic factory, as well as two nearby buildings, police said.
Fire brigade sources said some 40-42 families were living in the three buildings.
On information, nine fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze at about 6:50 am with the help of the local residents.
There was no report of any casualty in the fire incident as people residing in the buildings managed to come out safely.
