Three killed, 27 injured in separate road mishaps

RANGPUR, Sept 28 (BSS): At least three persons were killed and 27 others injured in four separates road mishaps in different districts.
In Rangpur, a truck driver was killed and 17 others injured in a road mishap amid bad weather at Joyram Anowara point on the Rangpur-Bogra highway under Mithapukur Upazila Sunday, police sources said.
Sources said, a Bogra bound truck (Rangpur-Da-11-0088) from Rangpur and a Panchagarh bound BRTC bus (Bogra-Ba-11-0021) from Gaibandha collided head-on at the point injuring at least 18 persons including bus passengers.
Mithapukur Thana police with the help of the local people sent the injured persons to different hospitals soon after the accident.
In Mymensingh, at least one person was killed and 10 others injured, four critically, in two separate road accidents in Bhaluka and Phulbaria Upazila here this morning.
One person was killed and five others injured, four critically when a Mymensingh bound passenger bus hit a tempo coming from the opposite direction on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Seed Store area at Bhaluka Upazila, injuring six persons at around 8:30 am.
Of them, four persons were admitted at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) where Abdul Hye (40), who hailed from Phulbaria Upazila, succumbed to his injuries.
The body was sent to MMCH morgue for autopsy. The bus driver fled the scene with his vehicle. A case was lodged in this regard.
At least five persons were injured in another accident occurred at Dapunia Kashaipara area under Sadar Upazlia here this morning.
Police and local sources said, the accident took place when a Mymensingh-bound passenger bus from Phulbaria Upazila skidded off the road and fell into a roadside pond injuring five persons at around 9:00 am.
Being informed, fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and rescued the bus passengers with the help of the local people. The injured persons were treated locally.
In Comilla, an old man was killed in a road mishap on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Paduar Bazar bypass Friday.
Police said a speeding truck ran over the old man while he was crossing the highway at about 10:00 am. Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Police seized the truck but the driver managed to flee. A case was filed in this connection.
