Three killed after bus hits truck on Bangabandhu Bridge

SIRAJGANJ, Sept 07 (bdnews24.com): A collision between a bus and a truck on Bangabandhu Bridge has claimed the lives of three people, including a father and son, and injured eight others.
The incident occurred near the 13th pillar of the bridge at around 5:15am on Saturday, according to Abdul Kader Jilani, chief of Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Station.
The dead have been identified as Rois Uddin, 62, a supervisor of the bus from Dhanbandi area in Sirajganj town; his son Shahriar Ripu, 27; and Chandan Shekhar, 36, a passenger of the bus from Bonbaria area of the same town.
The Dhaka Express bus from Sirajganj lost control and crashed into a truck near the 13th pillar of Bangabandhu Bridge, Jilani said. The front of the bus was crushed in the impact, resulting in the deaths of three passengers at the scene and injuring eight others.
Upon receiving the news, the injured and the dead were taken to Sirajganj Bongomata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital for treatment and post-mortem examination.
Traffic on the Dhaka-bound lane of the bridge was halted for 30 minutes due to the accident, but normalcy returned after the damaged bus was removed, said Jilani.
The truck fled the scene immediately after the collision.
