Three people were killed in separate road accidents in two dists on Thursday, reports UNB
In Khulna, a police officer on highway patrolling duty died after being hit by a speeding truck on the BKSP bypass in Khulna city in the small hours of Thursday, police said.
The dead is Abdul Haque (55), a resident of the city. He was posted at Khanjahan Ali thana of Khulna city.
The accident occurred around 12:00 am when the truck hit sub-inspector Abdul on the high-speed corridor when was on patrolling duty in the area, said Md Kamal Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of Khanjahan Ali thana.
Later, he was rushed to Khulna Medical College and Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 1am, he added.
The body has been kept in the hospital morgue, said the OC.
In Gopalganj, two people were killed and 10 others injured when a bus hit an excavator on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in the Dumdia area of Gopalganj's Sadar upazila in the small hours of Thursday.
One of the dead is Bachchu Molla (50), son of Majid Molla of Rupsha upazila.
The accident occurred around 12:00 am when the Dhaka-bound bus of 'Diganta Paribahan' from Bagerhat's Katakhali, collided head-on with the excavator, leaving two people, including its driver, dead on the spot, said Abu Naim Md Tofazzal, inspector of Kashiani Bhatiapara thana.
The 10 injured were taken to 250-bed General Hospital.
Vehicular movement on the busy road remained suspended for an hour following the accident, triggering a four-km tailback on both carriageways of the highway.
However, vehicular movement became normal after police intervention.
