Three killed in road mishaps

BRAHMANBARIA, Apr 30 (UNB) : A school girl was killed when a bus ran over her in Kokil Texttile Mill area on Brahmanbaria-Sylhet highway in the district town Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Mahmuda Begum (10), a class IV student of Asif Tutorial School and daughter of Golap Miah, resident of Titaspara area of the town. Police and witnesses said the speeding bus dashed Mahmuda in the area when she was crossing the road at around 10:30am. She died on the spot. Local angry people seized the bus and blocked the highway for an hour protesting the accident. On information, police rushed to the spot and removed the blockade. The body was sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed. Meanwhile, A driver was crushed under the wheels of his tractor at Mourail in the district town Friday. Witnesses said driver Abdur Rouf (35), son of Abdul Haque Mia of Lalpur village in Ashuganj Upazila suddenly fell down and ran over by his speeding tractor in the area when the vehicle hit a speed breaker in the morning. After the accident local people rushed him to Sadar hospital where he died after sometime. Another report from Madaripur adds: A motorcyclist was killed and three others were injured in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a baby taxi on Madaripur-Takerhat road in Rajoir Upazila Saturday morning. The deceased was identified as Asad Babu (18), son of Mohammad Ali of East Sarmongal village in the upazila. Police said the Tekerhat bound motorcycle collided with the Rajoir-bound baby taxi near Bolgram at about 10am, leaving motorcycle rider Asad dead on the spot and three baby taxi passengers injured. The injured were rushed to Faridpur Medical College hospital in critical condition.
