Police have recovered the bullet-ridden bodies of three young men suspected to be members of the armed tribal separatist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), aka the Bawm Party, reports bdnews24.com.
Additional Superintendent of Police in Bandarban Hossain Md Rayhan Kazemi said on Sunday night that they also found arms and ammunition next to the bodies in the remote Rouninpara of Rowangchhari Upazila.
The bodies were taken to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
"The joint force conducted an operation in that area. They had a fight with KNF members," said Rayhan.
Suspected members of the Bawm Party attacked three banks in Ruma and Thanchi in early April. They looted cash, arms of security personnel and abducted a manager who was later released.
A joint force of the Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, Rapid Action Battalion and police have been carrying out an operation against the Bawm Party since then.
As many 78 people, including 22 women, have been arrested in the operation.
