Three more children die with measles-like symptoms
FE REPORT | Tuesday, 2 June 2026
The health authorities on Monday registered three more deaths of children with measles-like symptoms, raising the total number of measles confirmed and suspected fatalities to 588 since mid-March.
Of the total deaths, 90 were medically confirmed measles casualties, according to data of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS also recorded 1,179 new suspected and confirmed infections in the past 24 hours, taking the total suspected infections to 72,070 and confirmed cases to 9,094 nationwide.
The health authorities could not medically confirm all the suspected measles infections and related deaths due to shortage of testing kits.
The DGHS previously logged a record-high daily death figure of 17 children from measles and measles-like symptoms last Monday.
Of the total deaths, 254 were reported in Dhaka. Patients are seen rushing to Dhaka for advanced treatment and life support for the minors amid a poor primary healthcare system prevailing in upazila and district levels.
The health ministry has been conducting an emergency measles-rubella vaccination campaign, targeting children aged 6 months to 5 years, since April 5.
