Three muggers arrested after gunfight with police, SI injured

A police sub-inspector was injured after a gunfight between policemen and fleeing muggers at Dhanmondi in the city early Sunday, the police said.
Dhanmondi thana police said their patrol team challenged a private car at about 12:45am for its suspicious speed near the bridge on Road No-8 of the capital's posh area.
But passengers of the car ignored the police signal and started firing on the law enforcers, forcing them to fire back resulting in a gunfight between them, Assistant Sub-Inspector of the police station Abdul Hakim told the FE.
"Sub Inspector Sohel Imtiaz was caught in the line of fire and wounded. He is now undergoing treatment at Rajarbag Police Lines Hospital," he added.
The police patrol team also managed to stop the car and arrested all its three passengers -- Md Noor-e-Alam alias Milon, Sabbir Huda and Sayed Azad -- along with 111 pieces of Yaba tablets, one pistol, three bullets and two sharp weapons.
The police officer said the gang has been using the car to mug people at midnight.
A case was filed with the police station in this connection.
