Three UPDF men gunned down in Rangamati

Unknown assailants have shot dead three activists of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), one of the two main groups of indigenous people in Chittagong Hill Tracts. The incident took place at Bhaibonchhara in Longgadu upazila of Rangamati district on Sunday morning. The deceased were identified as Anik Chakma, 30, Sumon Chakma, 28, and Sujoy Chakma, 35, all activists of the UPDF which opposes the CHT peace treaty. Local people said a group of men sprayed bullets on the UPDF activists at dead of night when they were staying in the Bhaibonchhara village, leaving three of them dead on the spot. Local leader of the UPDF Mickel Chakma confirmed the deaths, according to a news agency.
