They also said now is the time for the Bangladesh corporate sector to perform their responsibility highlighting the core issues like energy consciousness, energy efficiency, alternative energy and environmental consciousness.
These were viewed by the top entrepreneurs of the country at the inauguration ceremony of the new corporate head office of Mutual Trust Bank (MTB) Limited at Gulshan in the city while celebrating its 11th founding anniversary Sunday.
The MTB Centre was formally inaugurated by its Chairman Samson H. Chowdhury while the MTB founding chairman Syed Manzur Elahi, vice-chairman Dr Arif Dowla, directors M A Rouf, Hedayetullah Ron, Abdul Malek, Rashed Chowdhury and MTB managing director and CEO Anis A Khan were also present on the occasion.
Mr Samson H. Chowdhury in his address said that the bank has already improved its standards in case of quality of service and technology and such improvement will continue.
"We want to provide our customers a faster and better service at the new centre in a comfortable way. We have invested a huge amount of money to make it a unique centre in terms of space and technology," said Samson H Chowdhury.
The MTB Centre is a unique project with each floor attributed to one of the major energy sources such as trees, water, wind, sun and earth and these components together define the critical balance of sustainability.
MTB Founding Chairman Syed Manzur Elahi, in his address, said that MTB has tried in the best possible standards to serve its clients and make it one of the best in the country.
"Our customers have more choice now as there are 29 local and 6 multinational banks in the country to cater to various financial needs which force us to be unique to better serve our customers," said Mr Manzur Elahi, also a former adviser to the caretaker government.
He said the MTB has chosen to reduce power consumption and take significant steps to create awareness about green energy through setting up of this building.
Moreover the top floor of this building will be powered by solar energy while the whole building will save 60 per cent of its total energy cost through its intelligent lighting system, he said.
Mr Manzur said there is no alternative of introducing high technology to provide faster and better service to clients of banks in the present global situation adding their priority sectors are agriculture, SME and remittance transfer.
"Agriculture is the thrust sector for the MTB and we were successful in disbursing a targeted Tk 800 million (80 crore) agri loan last year. We are converting our branches by adopting high tech to disburse SME loans and same is for remittance so that anyone living abroad can send their money in faster way," said Mr Manzur.
He said companies need to focus more on adapting technology and invest in this sector to provide better services to the people.
Mr Manzur expressed hope to increase the number of the MTB branches to 67 by the end of this year and about 100 by next year.
At present the MTB has 51 branches including country's first ever solar energy driven SME/Agri branch at Ishwardi in Pabna.
Senior MTB officials from allover the country, key officials of other banks, MTBL associates and a large number of customers, elite and dignitaries attended the function.
