Foreign Affairs Minister Dipu Moni urged Wednesday the local business community to explore the untapped potential of Bangladeshi products in Canadian market.
She was speaking at a ceremony marking the milestone of the annual two-way trade between Bangladesh and Canada reaching one billion dollars during the Canadian fiscal year of October 2008-September 2009.
The celebration ceremony was organised by Canada-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CanCham) in the city.
She said: "We're enjoying duty and quota-free access to the Canadian market for almost all our products. So we've immense opportunities to raise the volume of exports to the North American country.
"You (business community) should take the full advantage of the trade facilities being offered by the Canadian government.
"We're exporting mainly textiles and ready-made garments to the Canadian market, which account for nearly 96 per cent of our total exports. We should diversify our exports," Dipu Moni said.
Currently, Bangladeshi RMG products enjoy a market share of around 20 per cent in Canada.
She said the government would provide all possible assistance to the business community to enhance the existing business relations with Canada.
She urged the local business community to strengthen the business relations further.
