FE Report
The Goethe Institute, Bangladesh and the Institute of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) jointly organised a seminar on 'Culture Sensitive HIV/AIDS Prevention Communication for Behaviour Change' at the German Cultural Centre in the city Wednesday.
In the seminar, speakers stressed the need for collective action of the government, NGOs (non government organisations), business sector and religious institutions to successfully prevent HIV/AIDS in the country.
They also underscored the fact that without major changes in behaviour pattern and an increase in knowledge about HIV/AIDS, the deadly disease could spread rapidly among at-risk population.
They called for a multi-pronged strategy focusing on mass media, publications and community-based programmes to address the issue. They also urged the religious institutions to participate in social and economic issues for human development.
SAW Executive Director Ahmad Shafi Maqsood, WHO Public Health Administration official Frank Paulin, National Consultant of USAID Tony Michael Gomes and the HIV/Consultant Physician of ICDDRB were present at the seminar.
