Thrust on creating skilled human resource in electronics, telecom sector

Speakers at a roundtable in the city Monday stressed the need for gaining applied knowledge at the tertiary level to develop skilled and efficient human resource in the country's electronics and telecommunication sector.
Simultaneously, the apt application of the institutional knowledge in the professional field holds key to success for young people pursuing their career in this field, they said at the roundtable organized on the 'Career in Electronics and Communication Engineering sectors' at BRAC Center Inn in the city.
Organized by Career Service Office of BRAC University, the roundtable was attended by the leaders in the electronics and telecommunication sector as well as the teachers and students of the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of BRAC University.
Referring to the various extracurricular qualities an engineer working in the telecom sector should acquire, General Manager of Citycell Tahsinur Rashid Khan put thrust on developing teamwork, straightforwardness and honesty.
The Citycell GM also informed that his company would provide a range of state-of-the -art telecommunication equipments to the Electronics and Communication Engineering Laboratory of BRAC University.
Citing the export potentials of the locally manufactured electronic goods and home appliances, CEO and Director of ENERGYPAC Electronics Ltd Nurul Akter stressed on government incentive to encourage export.
At the same time he called for the exemption of import duties on electronics equipments and laid the emphasis on proper branding of the country as a potential outsourcing destination for the manufacturing of electronic accessories.
"The cheap labour force with value addition of up to 60 percent can be a big advantage for the local electronic manufacturing industry," Akter said.
"Merely acquiring the bookish knowledge is not enough, students must know how to aptly apply them in their respective working field," Mohammad Rezaul Kabir, Chief Operating Officer of NovoTel said.
Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of BRAC University Md. Sayeed Salam, who chaired the event, informed that the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of BRAC University is the first private university in Bangladesh to receive the formal accreditation in that specific discipline.
Sharing an optimistic view about the prospect of the telecom sector, speakers provided a precise career outline to the students hoping to pursue their career in this field.
