GM Quader, Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Thursday said the government is going to formulate a law aiming to supervise and control private sector investments in the infrastructure development for the country's tourism industry.
"We are planning for a law that would restrict construction of permanent infrastructure by private investors in locations which are announced as tourist spots," the minister said.
Praising private sectors investment in the development of the country's tourism industry Mr Quader also criticized some case of illegal land-encroachments and exploitation of natural beauty by the name of infrastructure development activities.
He was addressing at the inauguration ceremony of the three-day long International Tourism Fair - Dhaka Travel Mart 2010 began from March 11 at the Winter Garden of Dhaka Sheraton Hotel.
"Bangladesh has every potential to attracting local and international tourist and we can't let them (private investors) ruin its virgin beauty by the name of development," he added.
He also mentioned finalization of a guideline dedicated to tourism industry under which would carry-out all promotional activities and would regulate private investments.
He emphasized the importance of marketing in the international and local media in this regards and assured undertaking necessary initiatives from his ministry.
Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Engr. Mosharraf Hossain was also present on the occasion as the Special Guest.
He was accompanied by Air Commodore Muhammad Zakiul Islam Managing Director and CEO, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Chairman of the DTM-2010 Organising Committee Kazi Wahidul Alam, Deputy Managing Director, Eastern Bank Limited Mamoon Mahmood Shah, Vice President, Marketing and Sales, GMG Airlines Sadad Rahman and Area Manager Bangladesh of Emirates Hussain Al Safi.
A total of forty-five organisations from seven countries-- Malaysia, Nepal, IJAE, Kuwait India, China and host Bangladesh are taking part in Dhaka Travel Mart-2010 offering special discount on airfares, tour packages and a host of other offers to the visitors.
The fair would remain open for visitors from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on all the three days charging an entry fee of Tk20 each. A raffle draw on the entry coupons will be held on the concluding day on March 13, 2010, at 7.30 pm at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel. Prizes will include airline tickets to various destinations home and abroad and other exciting tour packages, hotel stays etc.
