Thrust on enhancing export of leather goods thru' TQM

A two-day seminar on enhancing export potential of Bangladesh's leather and leather goods through application of total quality management (TQM) concluded in the city Saturday.
The seminar was organised by Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI), Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), Bangladesh AOTS Alumni Society (BAAS), Bangladesh Society for Total Quality Management (BSTQM) and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
EPB Vice-Chairman Md Shahab Ullah was the chief guest of the opening ceremony of the seminar. The other speakers of the programme included JBCCI President Hideo Ueno, JETRO Dhaka Representative Tomohiro Kinomoto, BAAS President Syed Masud Hasan, BSTQM Acting President MU Ahmed, and representative of the organisers AKM Moazzem Hussain.
The objective of the seminar was to help the leather and leather goods' manufacturers of the country in improving the quality of their products for export market through application of the TQM techniques.
As many as 40 participants from the leather and leather goods sector of the country attended the seminar. The resource persons were high-level Bangladeshi TQM experts, trained in Japan through AOTS and other programmes.
The organisers also arranged a similar TQM seminar at Srimangal for local tea sector last November. Other potential sectors of the country will also be covered gradually in the near future, said a press release.3
