Citibank, N.A., Bangladesh and non-governmental organization (NGO) partner Underprivileged Children's Educational Program Bangladesh (UCEP) organized a graduation ceremony for 345 students who were enrolled in the Citi UCEP Pre Technical Education Program in 2013. Special Guest was Ms. Ella de Voogd - First Secretary - SRHR, Education and Gender, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Also present were Michael Zink, Head of ASEAN, and Citi Country Officer (CCO) for Singapore, Citi; Dr. Muhammad Alauddin, Vice Chairman, UCEP, Board of Governors; Zaki Hasan, Executive Director, UCEP Bangladesh, and Rashed Maqsood, Managing Director and Citi Country Officer for Bangladesh, Citi.
Citi Foundation (the philanthropic arm of Citigroup Inc.) provided funding of USD 30,000, which helped UCEP offer 346 youths in the age group of 14 to 16 years with pre-technical education for 6 months. The course has been implemented in five UCEP Integrated General and Vocational (IGV) schools in the Dhaka region. The pre-technical education project takes a holistic approach to developing a young workforce by imparting essential skills, such as financial and entrepreneurial management, social and health skills, networking, and creative problem solving.
Of the 346 enrolled, 308 graduates not only completed their pre-tech course but further enrolled into different vocational courses at UCEP Technical School. The objective of the Graduation Ceremony is to recognize the hard work of the graduate students, help boost their confidence, and encourage them to pursue further education and training.
The top 10 meritorious students from the group were awarded notepads for their achievement by the Chief Guest and Special Guest. The awardees are Jharna Akter (96.25% score) from Nazir Hossain 3 Star UCEP School, Lalbagh; Rupali Akter (96%) from UCEP Ganuktuli City Corporation School; Laboni Akter (95.75%) Nazir Hossain 3 Star UCEP School, Lalbagh; Halima Akter (95.50%) from Nazir Hossain 3 Star UCEP School, Lalbagh; Sharmin Sultana (95.25%) from UCEP Ganuktuli City Corporation School; Abdul Lotif (94.75%) from UCEP Ismail School, Shah Ali Bagh; Abul Munshi (94.50%) from UCEP Ganuktuli City Corporation School; Md. Rashed Alam (94.50%) from UCEP Mirpur School; Md. Sazzad Khan (94.50%) from UCEP Mirpur School; and Adbul Jalil (94.25%) from UCEP Ismail School, Shah Ali Bagh.
