Thrust on fulfilling the conditions of frozen fish, shrimps importers

CHITTAGONG, Aug 23: If the conditions set by importers cannot be fulfilled the task of exporting frozen fish and shrimps worth Taka 420 million would be at stake.
Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Secretary Syed Ataur Rahman said this while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar on EU Non-Tariff Trade Rules arranged under the auspices of Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exportes Association (BFFEA) and in collaboration with Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation and Directorate of Fisheries at BFFEA Chittagong office recently.
He reminded the stakeholders involved in this industry to remain cautious and stressed the need for finding ways to cope with EU-devised non-tariff trade rules.
Syed Ataur Rahman said, a delegation of EU's Food and Veterinary office would arrive in Bangladesh on a 10-day visit on October 16 next. The government is attaching highest priority to securing a positive attitude of the visiting delegation through implementing necessary plans at frozen food processing plants, shrimp hatcheries, shrimp cultivation fields, service centres and depots. He said necessary guidelines have already been provided to the adviser of the Fisheries Ministry in this connection.
Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation Chairman Syed Mahmudul Hoque presided over the seminar while Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Hussain Jamil and Director General of Fisheries Md Mokammel Hossain spoke as the special guest and the guest of honour respectively on the occasion.
