Thrust on gender budgeting by all ministries

Speakers at a function on Monday said that gender budgeting should be carried out by all the relevant ministries to attain the goal of women empowerment.
To this end, the government could introduce a systematic gender-sensitive national budget monitoring procedure on a regular basis, they said.
They also recommended that the national budget must reflect Naari Niti (Women Policy) 2011 and the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
The speakers came up with recommendations at a discussion on budget allocation for women in the upcoming budget in the capital, organised by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad (BMP).
Ayesha Khanam, BMP President, Nazneen Ahmed, Seniour Research Fellow of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha, Professor of Economics, University of Dhaka, spoke on the occasion.
BMP President Ayesha Khanam laid emphasis on monitoring and evaluation of allocation and utilisation of the budget.
