Thrust on initiating integrated package for welfare of women, children, elders

Prime Minister's Adviser HT Imam Tuesday underscored the need for initiating an integrated package for welfare of women, children and elders as social safety net side by side controlling population of the country, reports BSS.
The present government is determined to implement Bangabandhu's dreams of Sonar Bangla and the targets of building a digital Bangladesh and achieving the goals of Vision 2021 declared by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through balanced distribution of assets, he said.
The adviser was addressing as the chief guest at a pre-budget discussion titled "Maternity allowance with dreams of change towards poverty alleviation" at the conference room of the Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA).
Development Organisation of the Rural Poor (DORP) and the Jugantar jointly organised the discussion with BEA President Dr Qazi Kholiquazzaman Ahmed in the chair.
Parliament member and chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki addressed the function as the special guest.
Editor of the Jugantar Salma Islam delivered the welcome address, while General Secretary of DORP AHM Noman presented the key-note paper.
Parliament member Golam Farooq Khandaker Prince, President of Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik Jote Shirin Akhter, Chairperson of Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum Wahida Banu, Chief of Editorial Board of the Samakal Ajoy Dasgupta, Country Representative of En-gender Dr Abu Jamil Faisal and Ulipur Upazila chairman also addressed the function.
The Adviser said the country could not be free from poverty, as it failed to ensure proper distribution of wealth. The government would introduce a five years plan for ensuring balanced asset distribution, he added.
