Thrust on making people-oriented economic policy

Friday, 1 January 2010

Speakers have underscored the need for making people-oriented economic policy and make service sectors poor-people-oriented.
They made the observation while speaking at a workshop organised by the Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS) titled "service sector privatisation and people's access to services: situation of trade union" in the city Thursday, reports UNB.
Country's economic development should not be viewed partially. Privatisation can never ensure a welfare state, they mentioned.
They also called for uniting the country's trade unions for making the service sector people-oriented.
Private sectors should be under the government control and service sectors should never be brought under private sector, they observed.
Chairman of the Polli Karma Sahayak Foundation and President of the Bangladesh Economic Association Dr Kazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmed attended the workshop as the chief guest.
BILS Chairman Habibur Rahman Siraj presided over the workshop.
Among others, Coordinator of Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad Dr Wajedul Islam, Jatiya Sramik League President Abdul Matin Master and President of Jatiya Sramik Federation Abul Bashar addressed the workshop.
