Thrust on moral ethics, religious values to uproot corruption

CHITTAGONG, July 13 (BSS): Speakers at a seminar today urged all sections of the people to come forward for uprooting corruption once for all through practising moral ethics side by side with religious values in society.In this respect, they stressed the need for countrywide mass awareness against corruption, measures to improve morality among the people, salary enhancement for government employees, keeping the administration free from political influence and establishing rule of law in the country.
Besides, the speakers suggested inclusion of anti-corruption lessons in the intermediate level curriculum immediately to aware and inspire the future generations against this menace.
The seminar on "Corruption: Causes and Solution" was organized by Raozan Club at Raozan-Rangunia Nizam Uddin Auditorium at Raozan sadar. Eminent religious scholar and Pir of Baitush Sharf Shah Mohammad Kutub Uddin presided over the seminar.
Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Mohammad Abdur Rouf attended the seminar as the chief guest while Major Gen (retd) Syed Mohammad Ibrahim was the main speaker. AKM Abdul Kader, chairman of Arabic Department of Chittagong University (CU), presented the keynote paper.
Vice-chancellor of International Islamic University Chittagong AKM Azharul Islam, former President of National Press Club Gias Kamal Chowdhury, Chairman of Science and Industry Research Council Chowdhury Mahmud Hasan, Prof Abdun Noor and Prof Jinobodhi Bhikkhu of CU, and Mohammad Omar Farook were the special guests on the occasion.
Abdur Rouf in his speech said honest, competent and skilled human resources are the prerequisite for establishing a society free from corruption and other forms of crimes.
"A corruption-free civil society is the precondition of an accountable government," he also said.
