Thrust on promoting Bangladesh's business image

Bangladesh German Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BGCCI) President Saiful Islam recently attended the 12th Asia-Pacific-Conference of the German economy held in Singapore.
A total of 750 German business leaders and 8 Ministers of Economics from ASEAN countries took part.
"Bangladesh played a very important role at this conference. There have been 11 conferences before, but this time Bangladesh was on the agenda and we successfully represented the country highlighting its opportunities", said Mr Saiful Islam.
He also added that Bangladesh was projected as the next German potential investment opportunity provider in line with China & India.
"Germany is the biggest market for Bangladesh goods in Europe and the second largest export market for Bangladesh worldwide. The trade volume between Germany and Bangladesh is $ 3.2 billion. BGCCI can support both countries to promote trade", said Daniel Seidl, Executive Director and GTZ/CIM expert.
Main focus of the conference was discussions on the potential for German companies in the Asian region and the opportunities for co-operations in the field of technology, urbanisation, food supply, mobility and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The Federal Minister of Economics and Technology in Germany, Rainer Bruederle mentioned: "The German economy is a strong partner of Asia and supports to face the challenges of the region, although Europe is facing difficult economical situation at the moment."
"Asia is booming - we need to develop good and sustainable partnerships" said Juergen Hambrecht, chairman of BASF.
Meanwhile, BGCCI and the German Embassy are hosting a seminar on CSR October 28 in the city.
As key speakers the Nobel prize winner Prof. Yunus and Dr. Otto from OTTO Group of Germany confirmed their participation.
"We are sure that Germany´s top business leaders will visit Bangladesh following this conference and Bangladesh can now for the first time cooperate much closer with the key German trade promotion bodies like the Federation of German Industries (BDI), the Association of German Chambers (DIAHK), the German Asia-Pacific Business Association (OAV). This will be a boost for the image of Bangladesh", says Mr Saiful Islam.
