Thrust on sharing best practices in diabetes management

Novo Nordisk arranged 'Bangladesh National Premix Summit' Friday at BRAC-CDM, Savar.
The summit was told that premix analogue might be used in all stages of disease progression with an option of easy intensification and optimisation from once to twice & thrice daily dosing to achieve control without causing hypoglycaemia, according to a statement.
The objective of the summit was to discuss and debate on various treatments available in diabetes, update the physicians on the latest innovations in treatment as well as share best practices in diabetes management.
Various topics and issues relating to diabetes therapy were deliberated at the summit including role of premix analogues, latest clinical evidence on premix analogues, early insulinisation for type 2 diabetes.
In Bangladesh, around 69 per cent of diabetic patients are using premix insulin.
Availability of premixed insulin analogs, as well as development of more convenient insulin delivery systems, has alleviated some barriers and fears associated with insulin use.
Prof. A K Azad Khan ,President, Diabetic Association of Bangladesh was the chief guest in the event.
Prof. Hajera Mahtab, Professor Emeritus and Chief Consultant Medicine, BIHS, Prof. Zafar Ahmed Latif, Director of BIRDEM Academy and Prof. Md. Faruque Pathan, Head, Dept. of Endocrinology, BIRDEM and Prof. Farid Uddin, Founder Chairman, Dept. of Endocrinology, BSMMU, Dhaka were present as chairpersons in different session of the summit.
Dr. Sanjay Kalra, Endocrinologist at Bharti Hospital, Karnal, India, Dr. Sarita Bajaj, Prof. And Head of Medicine at MLN medical college, Allahabad, India attended as the keynote  speaker.
Dr. Prasanna Kumar, Global Medical Director, Novo Nordisk A/S based out of Bangalore, India and Mr. A Rajan Kumar, Managing Director of Novo Nordisk (Pharma) Pvt Ltd. Bangladesh also attended.
