Thrust on transparency in stock market

The capital market watchdog has said it will take all necessary steps to bring further discipline in the market in order to make the investors' investment safe.
"We don't compromise in establishing fair play in the market to protect the investor's interest," said Md Ziaul Haque Khondker, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), while inaugurating City Brokerage, the capital market wing of City Bank Ltd as chief guest in a city hotel Wednesday.
He added that the commission was always making efforts to update securities rules and regulations in line with present context.
"In the last couple of years, it has brought a number of reforms and changes in its rules and regulations to make the market more transparent and sound," said SEC chief.
He advised the brokers to execute the buying and selling orders of their clients with prudence so that nothing goes wrong.
Dhaka Stock Exchange President Md Rakibur Rahman has expressed surprise about observations made by some people about the current market situation.
"It is really surprising that some people become afraid when the main index crosses 3000-mark and the turnover Tk 10 billion-mark," he said.
"I don't find any reason behind this surprise as the market is well regulated now than ever before," he said calling upon those people to come out of such kind of phobia.
The DSE chief further said, "The market experiences jittery in the wake of insufficient knowledge of a section of people, which is not desirable,"
Chittagong Stock Exchange President Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury said, "Co-ordinate efforts between money market and capital market will help boost the country's economy."
He urged the government to offload shares of the state-owned enterprises (SoEs) in order to create demand for quality shares.
Appreciating the government's market friendly budgetary measures, he said, "It will help industrialise and create employment opportunities in the country."
Chairman of the City Bank Aziz Al Kaiser said, "Our vision is to serve the clients with standard and efficient way."
"In addition, the City brokerage will have analytical and research team to pick up quality stocks," he added.
Managing director and chief executive officer of the City Bank K Mahmood Sattar said, "The government's positive budgetary measures has created some enthusiasm among the investors who are trickling in the market."
"The measures will also help expand the market. So, we want to be partner with this expansionary trend of the market," he added.
