Thrust on unity of RMG owners to face global economic crisis

CHITTAGONG, Oct 14: In a bid to avert the ongoing global financial crisis, members of the business community concerned with the garments industries are needed to be alert and get themselves united to tackle any untoward situation. If the persisting trend continues, Bangladesh may face a crisis.
This was stated by the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Anisul Haque in an Eid and Puza re-union arranged by the garments owners at a hotel in Chittagong Monday.
The FBCCI chief, however, expressed his optimism that owners of the garments industries would be able to unitedly face every crisis as they never capitulated in the wake of any critical situation in the past and faced any situation boldly.
KDS Group Chairman and Chittagong Forum President Khalilur Rahman presided over the function while BGMEA President Anwarul Alam Chowdhury, BGMEA First Vice President M A Salam, Director Mahbub Chowdhury, garments owner Mohammad Mohiuddin, Salahuddin and Shahadat Hossain also spoke on the occasion.
Anisul Haque told the audience that Bangladesh was now passing through a critical juncture both politically and economically. He urged the political leaders to take initiatives for building a conducive and stable political atmosphere in the country.
Anwarul Alam Chowdhury in his address said, the positive role played by the media on garments sector would help flourish the very industry. He reminded the government of the need for taking appropriate steps in advance to avert any possible impact of the global economic downtrend.
