Thunderbolt kills three

Three people, including two children, have been killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Sunamganj and Sylhet. In Sunamganj, two children were killed by a lightning strike in Sunamganj municipality area and Dharmapasha upazila on Saturday night. The deceased were identified as Afjal Miah, 12, a class VI student of Joynagar Bazar Hajigani Box High School and son of Ayub Ali, a resident of Rupabali village in Jamalganj upazila, and Fulmati Begum, 8, a resident of Tepikona village in Dharmapasha upazila. Witnesses said a streak of thunderbolt struck Afjal in Dhopakhali area of Sunamganj municipality at about 7:30pm while he was visiting his relative’s house in the area, leaving him dead on the spot. Fulmati was killed when a thunderbolt struck her while she was playing at the courtyard of her house in the same time. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Gazi Shakhawat Hossain confirmed the incidents. In Sylhet, a streak of thunderbolt struck Azam Ali, 50, son of Haris Ullah, a resident of Noagaon village in Osmaninagar upazila on Saturday the evening in a paddy field, leaving him seriously injured. Later, he was rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where the doctor declared him dead, according to a news agency.
