TIB for disclosing defence budget details in current JS session

Appreciating the Finance Minister for his assurance that detailed information about the country’s defence expenditure will be disclosed in the future, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) on Tuesday demanded that the disclosure be made in the current session of parliament.
In a statement, TIB executive director Iftekharuzzaman said, “We’re hopeful as the Finance Minister stated in parliament on Monday that the information about defence expenditure will be disclosed in the future. But the matter should not be kept pending for the future.”
“If the detailed information of defence expenditure is disclosed in the current budget session, it will increase public support for defence expenditure,” he added.
Iftekharuzzaman in his statement urged the government to initiate a culture of regular scrutiny of defence budget and expenditure at the meetings of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence Ministry, according to UNB.
