TIB for withdrawal of recent remark by Chief Whip Feroz

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Sunday called for immediate withdrawal of a recent remark by Jatiya Sangsad Chief Whip ASM Feroz, saying that such kind of statement is an alarming sign for democracy and good governance.
Earlier at a reception in Bauphal of Patuakhali on Friday last, the newly-appointed Chief Whip of the 10th parliament asked for money instead of crests from those who want to bring him gift.
The chief whip through loudspeaker said; "No more crests; I want cash. Cash is what I want." His speech, broadcast through the local cable networks, stunned his supporters and triggered a widespread criticism to various section of the society.
Local chapter of the Berlin-based organisation at a press release also made urged the leader of the House and its Speaker to consider resemblance of the pro-corruption remarks with the post of chief whip in the parliament.
TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said the chief whip's statement, which was telecast by national media and local cable operator, is not only heinous but also an alarming sign in terms of democracy and good governance.
"At the same time, it's very much contradictory to the anti-corruption stance of the Prime Minister," he said, adding that the statement will also inspire people to do corruption.
He also called upon the authority concerned to let people know about the measures of the PM, Speaker and the Parliament in respect to the matter as article 20(2) of the constitution clearly declared undisclosed money as illegal.
"So, the chief whip violated the constitution by making such remarks," the TIB ED added.
The TIB also demanded for immediate implementation of The Code of Conduct Bill for parliamentarians.
