Tidal surge washes away over 100 shrimp enclosures

BAGERHAT, Sept 23: Over 100 shrimp enclosures in four upazilas of the district were washed away by water, causing a reported loss of over Tk 5.0 million. Sources said over 300 thatched houses were also damaged in 10 unions of Swarankhola, Rampal and other upazilas as water levels in rivers and canals of the district suddenly swelled by 3-4 feet due to depression in the Bay. Besides, three anchored trawlers capsized in different rivers in the district Sunday morning. —UNB
