Tigers eye victory today

Tuesday, 25 March 2014

Bangladesh launch their assault for a possible semifinal spot against defending champions West Indies in Tuesday’s only Super 10 match of the World Twenty20 cricket tournament. After West Indies’ pitiful display against India, the hosts will probably fancy their chances despite their shock defeat to Hong Kong in qualifiers. For their part, the 2012 champions will have a chance to redeem themselves in a must-win clash at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium at Mirpur in the city. The match will start at 7:30pm with a thunderstorm likely. The West Indies will eye a big improvement to take control of their destiny in the group 2 that also features heavyweights India, Australia and Pakistan. Bangladesh will have a boisterous home crowd behind them. The bowlers have to find a way to contain Dwyane Smith, who will look to make amends for his 29-ball 11 in the India match, and Chris Gayle. Spinner Sohag Gazi is certain to be one of the many changes the Tigers are expected to make for the big game. Gazi, who may replace Farhad Reza, has dismissed danger man Gayle three times in Tests and ODIs. All-rounder Ziaur Rahman will replace injured Rubel Hossain. Batsman Shamsur Rahman may come in for Sabbir Rahman. Captain Mushfiqur Rahim has said his team will aim to give other teams a hard time. The wicket in Mirpur may offer turn which Bangladesh’s spinners will surely relish, according to a news agency.
