The 15-member Bangladesh cricket team will leave Dhaka tomorrow (Tuesday) night for West Indies to play three-match One Day International (ODI) series, two Tests and a T20 beginning August 20, hoping to play competitive and better matches, reports UNB.
"If we play competitive match, we can do better against any strong team at any ground. We always try to give our best and will also try in this tour," Tigers captain Mushfiqur Rahim said at a press briefing Sunday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
"If Shakib was in the squad, it could have been better. But it doesn't mean that when he is in the squad, every player will be relaxed," the captain said citing the absence of suspended all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan in the squad.
"We want to look forward instead of the past, focusing more on all aspects for better team performance. We can beat any team if the team plays well. Team performance is the main thing," he said. "I think it' s an opportunity for Bijoy (Anamul Haque) and Taskin (Ahmed) to prove their worth."
Mentioning the stress on the players, captain Mushfiq said the technical pressure is that pitches of West Indies are 'bouncy'. "We'll play a practice match there before the main matches. Hope we can adjust with pitch and environment. But pressure of expectations is almost same whether at home or abroad."
He continued: "obviously, it's not an easy game. We'll try to give our best in this tour. Actually, we always try to do so."
Addressing the press briefing earlier, Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha expressed his satisfaction over the hard work and performances of his boys, "I'm happy with most of the players performances. They really worked hard, mentally and physically during practice matches which are part of training."
Replying to a question about Shakib, the head coach said: "We've enough players and we've selected a good team. We'll do everything that will be better for us. If we start well, we will do better."
About the team's strength and weaknesses, he said: "I really don't know the team's exact strength and weaknesses… there are new young pacers in the team, batsmen practised against both pacers and spinners."
Apart from the three ODI's, Bangladesh will play two Tests and a T20 international match against host West Indies during the tour.
