Tigers present cricket bat to ICDDR,B to commend its fight against diarrhoea

Bangladesh National Cricket Team presented Monday a cricket bat signed by team members to the ICDDR, B in recognition of its fight against diarrhoea and malnutrition, reports UNB.
The International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh, or ICDDR, B is an international health research institution located in Dhaka.
Chairman of Cricket Operations Committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board AM Naimur Rahman Durjoy, MP, handed over the cricket bat to ICDDR, B executive director Prof John D Clemens at a ceremony held on their Dhaka premises.
World number one all rounder Shakib Al Hasan and vice captain of Bangladesh National Test Team Tamim Iqbal were present on the occasion.
The bat will be auctioned during ICDDR,B's Board of Trustees meeting this June and the proceeds will go to the ICDDR, B Hospital Endowment Fund that supports free of cost treatment to diarrhoea patients at their Dhaka Hospital, according to a press release.
During the ceremony, Shakib Al Hasan, also vice captain of the national team (ODI), said ICDDR,B's work in Bangladesh against diarrhoeal diseases and severe and acute malnutrition is truly commendable.
Prof Clemens said: "We hope that as sports ambassadors of Bangladesh you (cricketers) will spread the word about ICDDR, B to the world and especially of our good work in providing treatment to thousands of Bangladeshis who seek our help at the Dhaka Hospital every year."
Patients at ICDDR, B's Dhaka Hospital got a pleasant surprise when they saw the national sporting heroes walk through the Diarrhoeal Diseases Unit and Nutritional Rehabilitation Unit.
Naimur Rahman said they are very happy to be able to support ICDDR, B's Dhaka Hospital and they would like to consider doing more in the future.
