Tigers score 216 runs for 5 against England's 505
Sunday, 30 May 2010
Bangladesh batsmen inspired by Shahadat Hossain's five wicket haul put impressive display as they ended the second day with an emphatic 216 for five wickets in their first innings of the first test match against England's first innings total 505 at Lord's Friday, reports BSS received from London Saturday.
Tigers can easily say the day it was all Bangladesh as they polished off English tail without any discomfort and their batters led by dashing Tamim Iqbal made a mockery of the English bowlers on day two.
Bangladesh were comfortably placed at 172 for two in front of a surprising full house at Lord's. English fans appreciated and applauded every feat by Bangladesh bowlers and batsmen and it will be not wrong to say that Tigers were at par on day two against the Lions or even it was all the way Bangladesh.
Shahadat's 5 for 98, Tamim Iqbal's 55 off 62 balls, Imrul Kayes 43, Zunaid Siddiqui with 53 and Jahurul remained unbeaten as Bangladesh were 172 for two at stumps.
When the test started there was a question in every body's mind whether Bangladesh can survive at least full three days. But Tigers allowed their bowlers and batters to do the talking as they put up so far a spirited reply.
Bangladesh led by brilliant Tamim Iqbal well supported by defiant Imrul Kayes threw the challenge to English bowlers with some determined batting as the Tiger openers put on 88 for the first wicket stand.
Tamim as usual rode his luck and was not afraid to lash on anything which was pitched short or drove when pitched in-front while Kayes played second fiddle surviving two early run out chances to put on 68 for no loss at tea.
Tamim paid for his arrogance as he got himself run out unnecessarily when he was going great gun, he did not have to go for a risky single and paid the price for his over confidence.
Kayes played within his limitation with a nudge here and there but got out after the hard work was done fending poorly a short ball for a simple catch for a well compiled 43.
Zunaid with a well defiant 53 not out and Jahurul Islam with unbeaten 16 saw Tigers finished the day without any blemish.
