DURBAN, South Africa, Apr 03 (AFP): Bangladesh bowled out South Africa for 204 in their second innings on the fourth day of the first Test at Kingsmead on Sunday.
It left the tourists needing 274 to win a Test against South Africa for the first time.
South Africa collapsed from 105 for one at lunch against disciplined bowling and good fielding.
Fast bowler Ebadot Hossain took three for 40, while off-spinner Mehidy Hasan took three for 85 in 35 overs.
Dean Elgar made 64, his second half-century of the match, and newcomer Ryan Rickelton was stranded on 39 not out when the last three wickets fell for two runs in seven balls.
Earlier, Bangladesh's bowlers fought back on the fourth afternoon of the first Test against South Africa at Kingsmead on Sunday, taking four wickets and conceding only 52 runs in 28 overs between lunch and tea.
South Africa were 157 for five in their second innings at tea, an overall lead of 226.
The hosts appeared to be building a dominant position when they reached 105 for one at lunch, with captain Dean Elgar benefitting from two dropped catches and hitting his second half-century of the match.
But Elgar was leg before wicket to Taskin Ahmed for 64 soon after the interval.
The runs dried up as the bowlers, led by off-spinner Mehidy Hasan, kept tight control.
Keegan Petersen was caught at short leg off Mehidy for 36 and Temba Bavuma (4) and Kyle Verreynne (6) fell to Ebadot Hossain and Mehidy respectively.
Ebadot took two for 35 while Mehidy had figures of two for 59 off 29 overs.
Earlier, South Africa were 105 for one at lunch, an overall lead of 174, with Elgar on 62 not out. They had started the day on six for no wicket.
South African captain Elgar, who made 67 in the first innings, was dropped in the slips twice, on 34 off off-spinner Mehidy Hasan and on 43 off fast bowler Ebadot Hossain.
Both Mehidy and Ebadot troubled the batsmen, gaining spin and seam movement respectively. The floodlights were on from the start of play in overcast conditions after overnight rain but the clouds cleared later in the morning.
Ebadot had the only success for the tourists, gaining a leg before wicket verdict against Sarel Erwee (8) after Bangladesh called for a review.
But Bangladesh failed to review another lbw decision when Keegan Petersen was given not out on 14. Replays showed the delivery from Khaled Ahmed would have hit the stumps. Petersen was unbeaten on 21 at lunch.
