Tigers start extensive training

Sunday, 12 August 2007

Bangladesh national cricket team spent their first day in extensive training at the warfare wing of the Bangladesh Army's School of Infantry and Tactics (SI&T) at Jalalabad Cantonment in Sylhet Saturday, reports UNB.
All the players except vice captain Mashrafee Bin Mortaza and hard-hitting batsman Aftab Ahmed joined the day's sessions.
Mashrafee is now in India for the treatment of his ailing wife while Aftab took leave of absence from the BCB for his wedding.
Recalled all-rounder Alok Kapali, who hails from Sylhet, joined the camp directly from his home district.
As per the day's schedule, the Tigers joined a 3-km run and demonstration on rappelling, jumped on the ground from a mock tower, climbed building and mountain, took part in ridge line march along with map and GPS, and were oriented with the Tiger Chase Route.
The final 15-member squad, led by Mohammad Ashraful for the ensuing Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa, will spend another five days at the SI&T.
Earlier, the national cricket team went to Sylhet Friday afternoon.
On completion of extensive training at the SI&T, the national cricketers will make their net practices in Dhaka with the presence of interim coach Shaun Williams, who is expected to return from abroad on August 14.
Bangladesh team is likely to leave Dhaka for Kenya on August 29 to play in a proposed Twenty20 Cricket tournament, involving Pakistan, Bangladesh and hosts Kenya.
