Tigers suffer 9-wkt defeat to AIS

An unbeaten ton from opener Usman Khawaja guided Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) to crush visiting Bangladesh cricket team by nine wickets with 82 balls remaining in the 4th one-day practice match at the Garden's Oval in Darwin Monday, reports UNB.
This was the 3rd defeat for the Tigers in four practice matches against the AIS side.
Earlier, the touring Bangladesh national side earned a three-wicket victory over AIS in the 2nd practice match after suffering a 14-run defeat in the first practice match against the same team. They then conceded a five-wicket defeat in the 3rd match, also against the same opponents.
Chasing a modest target of 230, the AIS team stormed to victory scoring the required runs in 36.2 overs with in form Khawaja scoring not out 101 off 92 balls that featured nine fours and five sixes.
After the departure of opener Theo Doropoulos for 34 at the team total of 74, Khawaja along with number three Michael Hill put up 154 runs in the 2nd wicket stand to secure a thumping victory over the tourists.
Hill gave useful support to Khawaja contributing an unbeaten 87 runs off 91 balls with the help of 10 boundaries and two sixes.
Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful used eight bowlers but none of them except left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak Raj could make any impression. Razzak took the lone wicket giving away 32 runs in 4 overs.
Earlier, sent in to bat first, the Bangladesh team could post a moderate 229 for 9 in the stipulated 50 overs with all rounder Alok Kapali crossing the fifty-mark.
Kapali contributed 62 runs off 74 balls with seven fours and two sixes while wicket keeper Dhiman Ghosh came up with 2nd highest 28.
After losing five wickets for 95 runs, Kapali and Dhiman paired in the innings highest stand of 47 runs in the 6th wicket, followed by Mahmudullah Riyad 19, Farhad Reza 17 and Abdur Razzak not out 22.
The contributions from the Bangladesh top order batsmen were shocking, as Tamim Iqbal made 9, Mehrab Hossain Jr. 12, Ashraful 4, Rokibul Hasan 14 and Shakib Al Hasan 12.
Grant Sullivan and Trent Kelly caused the major damage wrapping up the Bangladesh top orders. Sullivan captured 4 wickets for 30 runs in 10 overs while Kelly claimed 3 wickets for 41 runs in his 10 overs. Holland and Smith took one wicket apiece.
Before playing the three-match ODI series, Bangladesh will play another practice match against Northern Territory Chief Minister XI on Aug 27 also at the same venue.
On completion of the practice matches, Bangladesh team will start their three-match ODI series against mighty Australia on Aug 30 at the TIO Stadium in Darwin. The remaining two ODI matches will be held on September 3 and 6 at the same venue.
